Tovino Thomas’ stellar performance

A gritty film like Narivetta needed a stellar actor in charge, and Tovino Thomas is perfect as the young cop Varghese who is thrown into the tense situation. Tovino brilliantly portrays the ordeal of a young cop who first resists the agitation with brute force and then is left grappling with his own conscience as he slowly begins to empathise with the tribals’ plight.

Suraj Venjaramoodu, Cheran and supporting cast

Not just Tovino Thomas, Narivetta has Suraj Venjaramoodu and Cheran too who also appear as cops. Cheran, the Tamil actor-filmmaker, made his Malayalam debut with Narivetta, bringing a fresh approach to his character. Arya Salim was also lauded for her performance as activist C K Shanthi, even though critics rued the limited screen time. Priyamvada Krishnan, Nandhu and Pranav Teophine are also part of the cast, along with writer-filmmaker Shahi Kabir.

Narivetta’s realistic portrayal

Despite obvious connections to Muthanga tribal agitation in Kerala, Narivetta makers have maintained that the film is not based on any particular incident. But they ensured that it was a realistic portrayal of the sensitive subject of tribal agitations. The cops too are humanised even when they are forced to use force to quell agitation.

Narivetta is backed by a stellar technical crew. The film has music by Jakes Bejoy and his thumbing background score adds to the ominous tone of the film. But not the BGM, the Minnalvala song has also impressed the audiences. Sid Sriram and Sithara have provided the vocals for this pleasant song.

Vijay is the cinematographer, while Shameer Muhammad serves as the editor, ensuring that Narivetta remains an engrossing cinematic experience.
