But the noted actor-filmmaker still seems to be answering queries related to Sookshmadarshini. Read on to know how Basil Joseph answered the question and defended his movie.

Basil Joseph on Sookshmadarshini voice note scene with Nazriya Nazim

During one of the promotional interviews for his latest film Ponman, Basil Joseph was asked about the voice note scene in Sookshmadarshini.

For the unversed, Sookshmadarshini's plot revolves around  Priyadarshini (played by Nazriya) who sets out to find the truth behind the actions of Manuel (Basil Joseph) after his mother goes missing. Priya is convinced that Manuel is lying and that Ammachi (the mother) has been harmed. And wants to alert her daughter Diana (Manuel's sister) about it.

Priya then messages Diana over the phone, who responds to her texts. But when Priya asks about Manuel and Ammachi’s bond, Diana sends her a voice note that says she is ‘‘caught up with something now, will talk connect back with you later”.

It is revealed during the climax that Diana’s phone was with Manuel at the time and he had merely forwarded the voice message to Priya. But then why didn’t it show as forwarded that would have instantly alerted Priya. Was this a blooper? Basil Joseph was asked.

“It is not a mistake. It is a generic voice note with no names. Diana's phone is with my character at the time. When I forward a voice note that has already been sent by me, it would not show as forwarded in WhatsApp,” the Ponman star explained.

This voice note in Sookshmadarshini particularly led to much discussions online, especially after the film was released on Disney+ Hotstar on January 11, 2025. With his clarification, Basil Joseph has sought to put an end to the various discussions around the ‘possible loopholes’ in the film.

And it is proof that director MC Jithin and writers Athul Ramachandran and Libin TB have strived hard to plug any holes in the film, even in the technical department.
