Nivin Pauly says Action Hero Biju faced negativity, confirms sequel plans still on

Sarvam Maya actor Nivin Pauly played a cop in the 2016 film Action Hero Biju, which initially received negative feedback before winning over audiences with its realistic narrative.

Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly is awaiting the release of Sarvam Maya, seeking to make a grand comeback after a set of middling films. The Premam star recently spoke about his cop avatar in the film Action Hero Biju which initially received negative feedback before winning over audiences. Nivin confirmed that the sequel plans are still on in an interview on the Pearle Maaney Show.

Action Hero Biju is a 2016 Malayalam movie, starring Nivin Pauly in the titular cop role. Filmmaker Abrid Shine helmed the film, which was unlike the usual Malayalam cop movies and thus receiving flak for its episodic narrative, Nivin said.

“For us, police films should be action-oriented. The story Shine chetan told me was episodic. We have never heard such a narrative. Such a movie hasn’t come out before. He wanted to do a different pattern for a police film and did this narrative. We had not seen police movies in episodic style. One week, it faced negativity in theatres and then it became a super hit,” Nivin recounted, adding that Action Hero Biju was more realistic.

The film, which features the popular song ‘Muthe Ponne Pinangalle’, generally won positive from critics and was developed a strong fan following over the years. Sequel plans were also on but that there allegations of fraud being committed and even a police complaint was filed. Despite these, Nivin confirmed that Action Hero Biju sequel plans are still on.

“It (The sequel) is in planning. But there are some complications. Once that is resolved, it will start,” Nivin said during the recent interview.

Actor Joju George is also seen a cop in the 2016 film, along with Alexander Prasanth, , Anu Emmanuel, and Saiju Kurup.

Meanwhile, Nivin’s Sarvam Maya, which also features Aju Varghese in a key role, will hit cinemas for Christmas along with Shane Nigam’s Haal and Unni Mukundan-led Mindiyum Paranjum.
