Noah Centineo in final talks to play young John Rambo in prequel film

The rights to the popular action series Rambo and The Expendables have been acquired by Lionsgate through a massive deal with Millennium Media, greatly increasing the studio's IP portfolio. John Rambo is the upcoming prequel and sixth installment of the legendary franchise, and the studio has verified rumours that Noah Centineo is in final negotiations to play the lead role.

As part of the complex agreement, Millennium will retain production rights for any future Rambo television projects, while Lionsgate will have global distribution rights for John Rambo. In addition, the deal covers the creation of any and all spin-offs from The Expendables film TV series, and related media, including video games and virtual reality headsets. Future Rambo films also offer Lionsgate the chance to be involved.

The Recruit and To All the Boys I've Loved Before star Centineo will replace Sylvester Stallone in the iconic role. Finnish filmmaker Jalmari Helander, known for his critically acclaimed action flick Sisu will be helming the project.

Production and sales kick-off

Filming of John Rambo will commence in Thailand next year. Lionsgate will debut the film's sales at the forthcoming American Film Market (AFM). Templeton Media and Millennium Media will produce the film based on a screenplay by Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani (The Mauritanian and Black Adam respectively). The affiliated producers include Kevin King Templeton, Les Weldon, and Jonathan Yunger, while the executive producers are Bonfire Legend's Dallas Sonnier and Amanda Presmyk.

Because Lionsgate distributes all of the recent Rambo films (Rambo IV and Rambo: Last Blood) in the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as all of the current The Expendables films, this contract expands upon that partnership. The studio also distributed the first three Rambo films across Latin America and Southeast Asia.
