Shobu Yarlagadda on Pathaan's success.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan's latest movie Pathaan has brought a new lease of life to Bollywood. The Hindi film industry has been going through a rough patch over the last few years. However, things looked pretty grim, especially in the last two years. None of the movies seemed to click with the movie-going audiences in the Hindi belt, ushering in one of the longest recession periods in the history of Hindi cinema.

And it was SRK's Pathaan that ended the slump and brought cheers back to the Hindi box office. The film didn't just become a hit at the box office, but it created several records and set a new box office benchmark in Bollywood. In the process, Pathaan also overtook the lifetime collection of director SS Rajamouli's path-breaking film Baahubali: The Conclusion in the north circuit. The Hindi version of Baahubali 2 with over Rs 510 crore gross collection to its credit was the highest-earning film in the Hindi heartland. And that record remained unbeaten for about six years. And Pathaan broke that record giving the industry a much-needed moral boost.

Shobu Yarlagadda, the producer of the Baahubali franchise, expressed his happiness and congratulated the Pathaan team for achieving this feat. "Congratulations to @iamsrk sir, #SiddharthAnand @yrf and the entire team of #Pathaan on crossing @BaahubaliMovie 2 Hindi NBOC. Records are meant to be broken and I am happy it was none other than @iamsrk who did it," he tweeted.

Yash Raj Films, which bankrolled the spy thriller, reciprocated Shobu's nice gesture by thanking him for giving Indian cinema a landmark film. "Nothing more thrilling than seeing how Indian cinema is thriving!!… Thank you @Shobu_ for giving us a landmark film like @BaahubaliMovie directed by the visionary @ssrajamouli - it has inspired us to work harder @iamsrk @deepikapadukone @TheJohnAbraham #SiddharthAnand," YRF tweeted.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, Pathaan is the highest-earning film in the history of Hindi cinema domestically, followed by Baahubali 2, KGF: Chapter 2 and Dangal.

According to YRF, the worldwide collection of Pathaan is about Rs 1026. The film has taken in about Rs 640 crore from its theatrical run in India so far. And has earned rs 386 crore in overseas markets.
