Vijay Antony in Pichaikkaran 2

Pichaikkaran 2, which hit screens yesterday in Tamil and Telugu amid good expectations, has opened to mixed reviews. The film, which marked Vijay Antony's directorial debut, has him composing music and handling editing for it apart from playing the lead in it.

Kavya Thapar has played the female lead while Dev Gill, Mansoor Ali Khan, Radha Ravi, Hareesh Peradi and John Vijay among others essayed important characters in it. Its story revolves around a highly successful businessman and a beggar. What happens when the former starts living with the latter's brain forms the crux of the plot.

The first half of the action drama which involves ample emotions and revenge angle has managed to entertain viewers, but the latter half falters due to excessive cinematic liberties and lack of novelty. The brand name Pichaikkaran has helped the movie garner good occupancy on its first day.

It has managed to collect a gross amount of more than three crores in Tamil Nadu. However, what has surprised the trade is its performance in Tollywood. The Telugu version titled Bichagadu 2 has earned four crores and is expected to break even in the coming days. The total collection of the project is said to be more than eight crores on the first day.

Bichagadu, which was released in 2016, was a huge hit in Tollywood after which Vijay Antony's films were simultaneously released in the Telugu states. The actor-filmmaker received a warm welcome when he went to promote the movie in Hyderabad a few days ago.
