Ponniyin Selvan: The Mani Ratnam film to open huge in the US, set to earn THIS whopping amount with its premiere

It looks like Ponniyin Selvan is that film which is going to mark the grand comeback of Mani Ratnam, if everything falls in place. With a stellar cast which Tamil cinema hasn't witnessed in recent times, veteran technicians on board and effective promotions in various cities across the country, the movie is poised to take a huge opening in Tamil Nadu.

This may not come as a surprise for many, considering the hype the movie has been carrying ever since its trailer was unveiled earlier this month. The film's tickets for day one and weekend have been selling like hot cakes in Tamil Nadu.

But what has surprised many is its phenomenal advance booking for the premiere show that is set to happen in the US on September 29, a few hours before its theatrical release in Tamil Nadu. According to reliable sources, the big budget project has earned $600K till now from advance sales, and $1M looks dead easy, going by the current trend.

The US will have the film released in both Tamil and Telugu languages. The booking for the Telugu version doesn't look interesting, though. A few days ago, Ponniyin Selvan became the first Tamil movie to have its trailer screened at Las Vegas.

Singapore, UK, Malaysia and Australia are a few other countries where the film is expected to have good openings. Though many film lovers had expressed lack of adequate buzz for the film a few months ago, the team worked hard and their promotional plans have been considered a hit among cinephiles.

They are now looking forward to seeing the box office numbers the film will rake in on day one. Going by the current trend, the movie has good chances of entering into the top 5 biggest earners in terms of day one box office in Tamil Nadu.
