Popular Telugu journalist Dheeraja Appaji to make his directorial debut with a web show | Exclusive

Besides working in the media, he is an author too and was associated as a PR for 200 movies over two decades

Popular Telugu journalist, film critic Dheeraja Appaji, who has over two decades of media experience, is set to don a new role. He will test new waters as a director with a web show. The news was made official today. He will be wielding the megaphone for a web series titled Donga Muddu, revolving around romantic tiffs between modern-day couples across different age groups.

“It has always been my dream to write, direct films when I started my career. However, I was being practical and worked in the media, developing a strong network, before letting my ambitions take over. After a long stint in media, I am happy to be fulfilling my dream with this project. My aim through the stories is to suggest that there could be romance between couples across all age groups after marriage too,” he said in a chat with OTTplay.

“There will be several segments in the show and each of the episodes will revolve around a different couple. It’ll capture several issues that surface between a husband and a wife. As of now, I plan to cast newcomers for the show and it’ll be shot at a shoestring budget. A noted producer, who already has feature film experience, has agreed to back Donga Muddu,” Appaji added.

Other details about the show’s cast, crew and the OTT platform will be announced shortly, he said. Dheeraja Appaji has been a film journalist for more than 20 years and is quite popular as a publicity representative for nearly 200 movies. Besides PR and journalism, he is a seasoned author as well, who has written several critically acclaimed stories like Vennela Kurisina Rathri, Mavayya and Viplavam Vardhillali, to name a few.

In addition, Appaji was associated as an editor of several film weeklies, entertainment section of a leading Telugu newspaper and as a content writer for many film portals.
