Priyadarshan clarifies difference between Bhooth Bangla and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2: 'The biggest problem is expectations'

Priyadarshan's Bhooth Bangla will hit cinemas on April 10, 2026 and ahead of it, fans have been claiming that it is the original Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. The filmmaker shared the difference between them.

On March 12, the teaser of Bhooth Bangla finally dropped and is already creating excitement among fans. Reuniting Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan, the film promises a quirky mix of horror and comedy. While the spooky poster had already piqued curiosity, the tone of the teaser reminded some viewers of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. Priyadarshan, however, has once again dismissed the comparison, stressing that Bhooth Bangla is entirely different and has no connection with BB2.

What did Priyadarshan say about Bhooth Bangla and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2?

Speaking to Pinkvilla, Priyadarshan once again clarified that Bhooth Bangla has no connection with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. He said, “The biggest problem is expectations. I don’t want [those], it’s something I really hate. Every film is different and you can’t compare this one. Because basically, Bhool Bhulaiyaa is a psychological thriller, but Bhooth Bangla is a fantasy. But, fantasy based on, okay, we have a lot of superstitions in our country…A lot of people believe in ghosts, and they do a lot of rituals.”

He further dismissed reports that Bhooth Bangla is a sequel to the 2007 hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa. He did not want to take any credit for it, clarifying that the film has nothing to do with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2. He added that while both films may share similar elements of entertainment, they are very different overall.

What's the story of Bhooth Bangla?

The Bhooth Bangla teaser hints at a quirky horror-comedy set in the town of Mangalpur, which is believed to be haunted by a demonic entity named Vadhusur that supposedly prevents anyone from getting married.

The story begins when Akshay Kumar inherits a huge mansion - funnily enough, compared to Buckingham Palace - which sets off a chain of strange supernatural events. The teaser mixes Priyadarshan's trademark comic chaos with spooky imagery like bats and shadows.

Meanwhile, Bhooth Bangla stars Akshay Kumar, Wamiqa Gabbi, Paresh Rawal, Tabu, and Rajpal Yadav. It will hit theatres on April 10, 2026.
