Su From So: Even though it was widely speculated that Raj B Shetty had a role in JP Thuminad’s directorial debut, he had denied it earlier. Here's why he didn't want to talk about his role earlier

In the limited promotions that actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty did for Su From So, a film that his Lighter Buddha Films had produced, he’d maintained that his role was limited to being producer and lyricist (he’d written the hit number, Danks Anthem). Netizens, though, were convinced that the shot of a sari-clad person’s leg belonged to Raj, which he denied. Of course, now that audiences have seen Su From So and know who the leg belongs to, he was justified in refuting this. After the film’s first premiere in Mangaluru, there were murmurs that Raj was indeed a part of the film.

Speaking about the role, Raj said that the reason that he did not reveal his presence in the film was because he did not want that to be a talking point prior to the release, or hijack Su From So as a film that he was a part of. Raj’s few media interactions were all about a team of newcomers, including Tulu theatre artiste JP Thuminad (the director), having done a good entertainer.
“When JP Thuminad, asked me to do a role in Su From So, I wondered whether to do it, because I had not done such a caricaturish character, other than, perhaps, 777 Charlie. Since I am a filmmaker, I was not worried about whether it would affect me in terms of audiences seeing me as a comedian or of not being able to do protagonist roles going forward. All that mattered to me was what my presence would do for the film and for me as a producer. Most importantly, doing the role would elevate the film, so, I figured it was best that I be a part of Su From So,” Raj said.

The actor-filmmaker is quick to add though that although he agreed to do a pivotal role in the film, he was hellbent on not promoting the same prior to the release. “I did not want audiences to come to the theatre for me. The content had to do the talking and hence we decided to keep that as a secret until the release,” added Raj, who plays a slightly effeminate guruji, tasked with exorcizing the spirit of Sulochana from Someshwar from Ashoka’s (JP Thuminad) body.
