It's been over 4 years since Rakshit Shetty announced his return to direction, Richard Anthony, and intention to direct a few more. But he's yet to go go on floors with any

It’s been more than two years since actor-filmmaker Rakshit Shetty was last seen onscreen and even longer that he’s been working on the script of his next directorial Richard Anthony. A prequel to the events of his directorial debut Ulidavaru Kandanthe , Richard Anthony is a project that Rakshit had earlier said he was looking at having in theatres in late 2025 or early 2026, but as it stands now, he’s not even begun shooting for it. All the reports of his crew supposedly having headed to Udupi to kickstart the project have come to nought.

No amount of social media comments addressed to Rakshit from his fans about a Richard Anthony update have managed to elicit a response, so far. But the actor-filmmaker made a public appearance in the US recently, where he spoke about doing his bit for Kannada and its abundant literary wealth through cinema, and addressed the concerns fans had about the delay in the making of his next.
Rakshit said that sometimes it may seem like it’s taking him too long in doing his films, but he clarified that doing good, big projects, is a time-consuming process. His promise then was that when he is ready with his film, he will bring even those people who’ve given up on going to the cinemas, back to theatres. This, of course, has excited a section of his fans, who’ve been waiting with bated breath to see what he does with Richard Anthony.
But some were not overtly enthused and opined that instead of wasting precious years in the pursuit of cracking the perfect script for Richard Anthony and only working in home productions, Rakshit ought to fan out and collaborate with other filmmakers on smaller projects. In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Rakshit had said that he would need at least a year and a half in production for Richard Anthony, so, it will not be in theatres before 2027, at least.
Meanwhile, recently, when Rakshit took to social media to post about 2 years of Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, fans repeatedly asked him for updates and urged him to come out of ‘retirement’. Well, he’s said he needs time to make a good film, let’s see how much time that is going to be.
