Ranbir Kapoor's next, Ramayana, prides itself as the most expensive Indian film ever made. Producer Namit Malhotra, who has worked on the VFX of the movie, explains why he thinks so. Namit believes that the story told by Nitesh Tiwari has the potential of competing with the global market. He believes that Ramayana can become an example like Oppenheimer or Forrest Gump. Here's what he said...

Namit Malhotra on Ramayana being an opportunity like Oppenheimer, Forrest Gump

During his conversation with Hindustan Times, Namit explained that he believes Ramayana can become a global story a la Oppenheimer and Forrest Gump. "It's not like we don't see an Oppenheimer and have a great feeling, or a Forest Gump, or any of these, you know, landmark films. Their stories are universal. I believe this is universal too. This is that opportunity that I believe I'm pretty fortunate to have received in my life, and I hope I can deliver," he shared.

The last time that India tried its hand at telling the tale of Ramayana on the big screen, the movie ended up being mocked. This was Om Raut's version, called Adipurush. The movie featured Prabhas, Kriti Sanon and Saif Ali Khan in the lead roles. Namit, well-versed with the debacle, believes that is the reason why Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana needs to be handled with care.

Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana features Ranbir Kapoor in the role of Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The film will be out in two parts. While the first releases in 2026, the other will be out in 2027.
