Rana Daggubati on AI impact: Makers of big-spectacle movies can watch the film even before they shoot

Telugu star Rana Daggubati spoke about the influence of AI in the filmmaking process during the recent AI Impact Summit 2026, especially in the pre-production stage.

The subject of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its growing impact on various industries, including cinema, has been a well-discussed topic in recent years. Telugu star Rana Daggubati also spoke about the influence of AI in the filmmaking process during the recent AI Impact Summit 2026, especially in the pre-production stage.

Rana Daggubati on how AI is changing filmmaking

Rana Daggubati remarked that no industry can ignore AI in any manner, and it is the same for the entertainment industry as well.

While there has been an AI impact on various aspects of filmmaking, he pointed out, "It has greatly shifted in the pre-production of a film.” The Baahubali actor pointed out that previously, the narratives were written down on paper, or pencil sketches were made, with each person of the creative team having their own idea of how the film would pan out." Explaining how this has changed now, Rana said, “You are able to create some part of the film, or some part of the storytelling experience, much before you get into the original course. A few filmmakers who are making the big-impact-spectacle movies are almost being able to watch the film even before they get on to shoot.”

Though he did not name the big filmmakers, the Telugu film industry is known for mounting movies on a lavish scale and these are usually big-budget ventures. The most-anticipated such Telugu film is Varanasi, helmed by the ace filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who had earlier earned global fame for his movies such as Baahubali and RRR. Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra and Prithivraj Sukumaran, is a globe-trotting adventure and is already making a lot of buzz, even though the release is in April 2027.
