Randeep Hooda played Sarabjit Singh in the 2016 biopic Sarbjit

Randeep Hooda featured as Sarabjit Singh in Omung Kumar’s 2016 moving biographical drama film Sarbjit. Based on the life of an Indian farmer, who was convicted of terrorism and spying by a Pakistani court, after he accidentally wandered into the neighbouring nation back in 1990. The film garnered a lot of attention for its engaging realistic portrayal of characters and situations. Remembering Sarabjit - who died on May 2, 2013 after a brutal attack in a Pakistan jail - Randeep shared a heartfelt note on social media.

On Sarabjit’s 10th death anniversary, the CAT actor posted a few pictures, which also included one with Sarabjit’s Dalbir Kaur, with whom Randeep shares special bond. “Today marks 10 years since we lost Sarabjit Singh, the struggles and hardships you faced can never be forgotten. I feel extremely fortunate to have known Dalbir ji, an iron lady who fought against the whole system for her brother & immensely grateful to have received her love that I will cherish for a lifetime. #Sarbjit”, the actor captioned the post.

Hailed as one of Randeep’s best performances, Sarbjit chronicles the life of the Bhikhiwind farmer, who accidentally crossed the Indian border under the influence of alcohol and was caught by the police on the other side. He was sentenced to death by the Supreme Court of Pakistan, and had already spent some 22 years in jail before he died at a Lahore hospital after being attacked by other prison inmates. The biopic also featured Aishwarya Rai, Richa Chadda and Darshan Kumar in pivotal roles.
