Revathy says Mohanlal's expression is so beautiful in popular scene in iconic Malayalam film Kilukkam

Assi actress Revathy recounted her experience of shooting the cult comedy drama film Kilukkam, starring Mohanlal. The veteran actress said the film was just magic.

Veteran actress Revathy, who plays a judge in the upcoming film Assi, has featured in a number of memorable Malayalam movies that remain popular to this day. Several of her films were with Mohanlal, and the one that would instantly pop in people’s minds would be the iconic film Kilukkam. In a recent interview with Red FM Malayalam, the actress too recounted shooting for the comedy drama, which has attained a cult status, stating that the film was just magical and Mohanlal's expression in a particular comedy scene as 'so beauitful'.

When Revathy said Kilukkam was just magical

Kilukkam is a 1991 Malayalam film, which starred Mohanlal and Revathy in lead roles and was helmed by filmmaker Priyadarshan. Considered as one of the all-time favorite comedy films from Malayalam, Kilukkam featured several laugh-out-loud moments. One of the most hilarious scenes from the movie featured Nandini (played by Revathy) making a long monologue of her misadventure, with Mohanlal’s character Joji left saying ‘Vattanale’ (You are mad, right?). "Lal's expression was so beautiful," Revathy said, adding that some films are just magical.

“That was just magic. What happens in some films is just magic. That it becomes magical because of teamwork," she said.

"Then it becomes an actors' space. And everybody is so good. Jagathy chethan, Innocent chettan, and Lal. It is just magic,” she said, recounting the other veterans who were part of the movie. She further said when you do such films, it is for the director who ensures the dialogue in the right metre. Actress Kani Kusruti, who also plays a key role.

What is Kilukkam movie about

Kilukkam revolves around tour guide Joji, who meets Nadini and assumes her to be rich. She gets her accommodation at a star hotel, only to realise that she is crazy and now has to put up with her. Noted comedian Jagathy plays Joji’s roommate, and the scenes featuring the trio are just a riot.

Veteran actor Thilakan and Innocent also play other key roles in the film, adding to the humour in no small dose. Kilukkam is streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium. Revathy and Mohanlal have starred together in a number of popular films, including Devasuram and Varavelpu.

On the other hand, Revathy’s upcoming Hindi film Assi releases in theatres on February 20, 2026. She is also part of a Malayalam movie Patriot, which stars Mammootty and Mohanlal. Patriot releases in theatres on April 23, 2026.
