Former cop turned screen writer and director Shahi Kabir’s second feature as a filmmaker, the Malayalam drama Ronth, is set for release on June 13, 2025. The film follows two police officers on patrol duty, one a junior who is at the wheel of the vehicle, played by Roshan, and the other, a higher ranking one, played by filmmaker-actor Dileesh Pothan, who uses every opportunity to put his younger colleague in ‘his place’. Much of the drama in the film revolves around the incidents that occur and the people that these two cops encounter while on duty.

Considering that Dileesh, an accomplished filmmaker, was on the set as an actor, the question that arises is if there were creative discussions about the film between him and Shahi? Moothon actor Roshan says that the beauty of Ronth was that there was a beautifully collaborative atmosphere, which stems from the fact that Shahi began his film journey as an assistant director on Dileesh’s National Film Award-winning Thondimuthalum Driksaskshiyum.

Dileesh Pothan films to stream

“From being Dileesh’s assistant to now directing him as an actor, Shahi has come a long way and he navigated that equation beautifully. Normally, on any set, actors will have certain ideas about particular scenes and there will be discussions, or even actual trials of various scenarios. Here, we had an established director on set in Dileesh, so any discussions would only positively impact the overall output. This is something I enjoyed on that set,” the Kankhajura actor said in conversation with Kaumudy Movies.

In the process, Orayiram Kinakkalal actor Roshan adds, there is no question of any seniority or hierarchy coming in the way. The sole focus of everyone involved was to figure out what would work best for the film. So, whichever suggestion was best would get picked, no matter who gave it, said Roshan, who spent the bulk of the narrative in Dileesh’s company, given that the story centres on the two of them.
