Twenty-two years after the tragic romantic saga Tere Naam which came out in 2003, trade rumours suggest that a sequel is already well underway in production. Producer Sajid Nadiadwala is supposedly in advanced talks to acquire the franchise rights from Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh Talreja; the idea was initially proposed by the late filmmaker Satish Kaushik in 2020.

Salman Khan played the title character of Radhe in the original, and Nadiadwala's primary goal is for him to make a comeback. An important area of concentration for Nadiadwala is the acquisition of IP. According to the insider, the producer "wants to own the IP for creative freedom". Strategically, the next film will be positioned as a "legacy revival" that combines the proven emotional appeal of the first with modern storytelling sensibilities.

Several components are presently in motion, and the project is still ongoing. The insider continued by saying that people are likely to witness a fresh lead pairing, contingent upon Khan's assumption of the original role or a more contemporary avatar. The announcement of a director will follow the completion of the legal and financial packing, after which they will secure the superstar's involvement. A preliminary screenplay is currently in development.

Khan will either assume a new role or revert to his previous one until the screenplay and creative direction are finalised. Unfortunately, five years after openly discussing the prospect of returning to the successful franchise, Kaushik passed away in March 2023, the same month that the original concept for a sequel was mooted.
