Sanju Weds Geetha 2 ending explained: Director Nagshekar’s love story ends in tragedy yet again, but what is it this time around?

Filmmaker Nagshekar’s Sanju Weds Geetha 2, starring Srinagara Kitty and Rachita Ram in the lead, is now on OTT. The film, which had legal and technical issues during its theatrical release, did not get the reception the original Sanju Weds Geetha got. Nevertheless, the makers have managed to get it on Amazon Prime Video. But for the title, Sanju Weds Geetha 2 has no other connection to the original, which paired Kitty with Ramya and ended in tragedy, with both protagonists dying.

This time too, Nagshekar presents a love story with a tragedy, but leaves one survivor to tell the tale. The basic premise of the love story revolves around class conflict, with Kitty’s Sanju a poor silk weaver, while Rachita’s Geetha belongs to a super-rich household. Love trumps all and she marries Sanju, much against her father’s wishes.

The film then becomes about their journey from rags-to-riches, with Sanju hell-bent on providing Geetha the luxuries she’s been accustomed to, while she works tirelessly to support him in all their business ventures, to ensure he becomes as big an entrepreneur as her father. It takes them about a decade to get to their goal, but then, tragedy strikes – Geetha may not live long enough to enjoy the fruits of their labour.

A trip to Switzerland, a new lung and...

She’s got lung cancer, but all hope is not lost, says her doctor, who suggests that she get a transplant. The challenge, therein, though, is that they need to find a compatible donor and that too within a week. So, off they go to Switzerland, where everything’s set up for the transplant. No questions asked about the source of the organ, she gets new lungs and lives to see another day. Only to then find out that she’s still breathing because of Sanju, her donor, who did not make it after the surgery.

The film ends with Geetha walking down an empty road and exclaiming her love for Sanju, but the confusing bit about Nagashekar’s film is that he’d also thrown in an Alzheimer’s diagnosis earlier that comes from the same doctor treating Geetha for her lung condition. Total memory loss is on the cards for the patient and based on the conversation, the assumption is that it is Geetha who’s got that too.

Now, if one were to assume that Sanju is the one with the diagnosis, was he of sound mind when he decided to become a living donor and sacrifice his life for her? On the other hand, if Geetha’s double whammy was Alzheimer’s, soon enough she won’t remember what he did for her and the sacrifice would have been in vain and this film too ends in complete tragedy in a sense.

The film that is on Prime Video gives Ragini Dwivedi a little more than the Habibi song that she had in the initial theatrical version. Sampath Raj and Rangayana Raghu also get more screen time. Does it now make for a more satisfying watch? Well, we leave that to the audience to decide.
