What’s Sarvam Maya deleted scene about

The 2025 Malayalam film Sarvam Maya is helmed by director Akhil Sathyan and features Nivin Pauly as the antagonist Prabhendu. The makers on January 11 released a deleted scene from Sarvam Maya which featured Prabhendu getting off a bus at his native place on his father’s 70th birthday. The sequence further shows another couple, travelling by car, who notice Prabhendu standing by the street. A fun sequence follows the couple first stop the car to give him a ride, but take off fearing his father’s objections. They again halt, but once again leave without Prabhendu, who is left red-faced.

The scene featuring Prabhendu getting off the bus reminded viewers of Nivin’s character Umesh in the 2015 Oru Vadakkan Selfie. Umesh was a laid-back youth, struggling to clear his pending papers in his B.Tech course and heading home. In the 2025 film, Prabhendu also returns home after struggling to make headway in his musical career and returns home due to a financial crunch.

Several viewers commented ‘Vadakkan Selfie vibe’ and ‘reminded about Umesh’, and stated that the scene would have been fun to watch in theatres. However, yet another section of fans opined that it was a good decision to edit the scene out as it doesn’t add much to the narrative and is not particularly funny either.

Malayalam actor-filmmaker Vineeth Sreenivasan had scripted Oru Vadakkan Selfie, directed by G. Prajith. Aju Varghese and Manjima Mohan play other key roles in the film, which is now streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium.
