Shahid Kapoor on Bloody Daddy director Ali Abbas Zafar: ‘He has brought his A-game to this film’

After making his OTT debut earlier this year with Raj & DK’s black comedy crime thriller series Farzi in which his performance was widely appreciated, Shahid Kapoor is now ready with his first film in the digital space - Ali Abbas Zafar’s highly-anticipated action thriller film Bloody Daddy. More popular for his romantic hero image, the actor will be seen in a rather intense and rugged avatar, tackling some sleek action sequences, in the upcoming thriller. While the newly released trailer promises an interesting action entertainer, this project also marks Shahid’s long due collaboration with the filmmaker.
In the movie, Shahid narrates the character of an NCB officer, who is on a mission to crack a narcotics scam. The plot is said to be based on the 2011 French film Sleepless Night. Among the other lead actors in the film are Sanjay Kapoor, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Ankur Bhatia and Vivan Bhatena. It will start streaming on JioCinema from June 9.
Speaking at the trailer launch of Bloody Daddy in Mumbai earlier today, Shahid said that the movie shot the film under very challenging circumstances, and Ali brought his A-game to this film, with producer Himanshu Kishan Mehra handling all the spadework and the backend work. “I think Ali has a great partner in Himanshu, and they work beautifully together. But just the way he put the whole thing together, it made it very comfortable for me,” the actor elaborated.

Commenting on his collaboration with the director, Shahid said, “Ali and I have known each other for many, many years. He actually hadn’t debuted as a filmmaker when we kind of worked together. So, I have seen him in those days as well. He was waiting to make a movie, and I could see that he has so much ambition and desire and sometimes frustration that why can’t I make a film that I really feel is going to work in today’s time. I feel so proud of him to see how he has come all these years. And now he’s married, he has a beautiful family, a beautiful home, and he has a little baby now. And all that has happened in the last year and a half. So, I feel like we are kind of in and around the same time. I think I’m just a couple of years older than him, if I can say so. I just feel like we were both in a space where we could collaborate. Our energies match pretty well, I think he’s also thinking long term. He’s become a man, he’s settled. He wants to work a certain way. He doesn’t want to compromise.”
In Farzi Shahid acted alongside Vijay Sethupathi, Kay Kay Menon, Raashii Khanna and Bhuvan Arora. It’s the story of a disillusioned artist, who resorts to making counterfeit money.
