Shodha ending explained: Is Rohit right about his ‘wife’ Meera being an imposter?

Actor filmmaker Pawan Kumar plays the lead in the series Shodha

Over the last 7 decades, the tale Chase a Crooked Shadow has found multiple adaptations across languages, with the latest being in the Kannada web series, Shodha , which is now streaming on Z5 (also via OTTplay Premium). Shodha, though, finds its basic thread in the Hindi series Khoj – Parchaiyo Ke Uss Paar, and follows a man, whose wife goes missing, only to return a few days later. But then he says that the woman in his house is not his wife, but an imposter.

How Pawan Kumar turned around Shodha

This is as far as the source material that Shodha picks up, which was then given a refreshing new spin by actor-filmmaker Pawan Kumar, who not only plays the lead role in the show, but also served as script doctor, fine-tuning the material by Suhas Navarathna and elevating it several notches. Pawan plays Rohit, a lawyer, whose wife Meera goes missing. He files a police complaint, but then meets with an accident, following which it is suspected that he’s suffered damage to his brain causing memory loss, as he fails to recognize his wife.

The Meera (Siri Ravikumar) at his bedside taking care of him, is not his wife, but an imposter, he claims, which, as it turns out is the truth. She’s actually a police officer, who was hoping to compel Rohit into confessing what happened to the real Meera. Unlike Khoj, where it turns out that he’d accidentally killed Meera, here, Pawan introduces a cat-and-mouse game between him and the cops.

His character wilfully murders Meera (Shwetha R Prasad), after she threatens to leave the country along with their daughter Tara. He even confesses his crime, knowing fully well that in the absence of a murder weapon or body, there’s no case against him. Using his knowledge of the law, he meticulously dismantles the police’s case against him. But just when it seems that he’s going to get away with the perfect crime, Meera’s sister Aditi’s (Anusha Ranganath) remembers something he’d said that she believes will lead to the body.

A twist that is incorporated revolves around Tara’s birth via surrogacy. Turns out, Aditi was the surrogate and she may have played a larger role in Meera’s death. But that’s an uncomfortable truth that Rohit chooses to not pursue because Aditi has been providing Tara a happy home in his absence and that is what matters more to him.
