When the trailer of Shodha came out, the first impression was that the premise seemed familiar, be it the missing wife, or the memory loss bit. And now, an eagle-eyed netizen has pointed out that the feeling is not unfounded. The claim is that Shodha is the Kannada remake of the 2024 Hindi series Khoj - Parchaiyo Ke Uss Paar, a 7-episode mystery thriller directed by Prabal Baruah, starring Sharib Hashmi, Anupriya Goenka, and Aamir Dalvi.
Khoj - Parchaiyo Ke Uss Paar follows Ved, whose wife Meera goes missing, and how he then believes that the woman who returns claiming to be Meera, is an imposter. As he tries to figure out the truth about Meera, Ved begins to question his own sanity. Does sound similar, right? What’s interesting is that the Hindi series is also available on Z5.
In a conversation with Pawan, who also served as ‘script doctor’ on the show, OTTplay had addressed the issue of familiarity in the concept of Shodha and he’d said, “Apparently, there is a very old story that came out on BBC, which, I haven’t seen or read, but when I got the script, I had asked the team how original it was. I was told that this BBC story had been adapted over time in many languages. One of the inspirations is from there. But what we cracked when Suhas wrote it was that it was more an adaptation than based on the original. Then, when it came to me, we changed a lot more and it has found its own originality.”
