The sports drama Sitaare Zameen Par has finally set its date for its OTT debut, following a lengthy theatrical run and an unconventional digital distribution strategy. Today, Sony LIV announced that the Aamir Khan film will be available to stream beginning April 3, 2026. Following its initial theatrical release on June 20, 2025, the streamer will finally make the film available for subscription-based streaming after an almost ten-month wait.

Why has Sitaare Zameen Par's OTT journey been a major talking point in the industry?

Lead Cast Aamir Khan, Genelia Deshmukh

Khan's experimental distribution technique has made the Sitaare Zameen Par OTT journey a topic of conversation in the industry. The superstar first used a Transactional Video-on-Demand (TVOD) strategy after the film's theatrical release, avoiding conventional streaming giants.

Beginning August 1, 2025, the movie was available for rent for ₹100 on the "Aamir Khan Talkies" YouTube channel. Khan said back then that he was trying out a "private cinema chain" concept in an effort to save the theatre industry. But the actor changed his mind about his "no-OTT" position, which is what led to the present licence deal with Sony LIV. The streaming platform has achieved a key milestone with this premiere; it is the first big Hindi theatrical film starring a superstar to launch exclusively on it.

What is the creative inspiration and central character behind Sitaare Zameen Par?

The 2018 Spanish smash blockbuster Campeones (Champions) was officially remade into the Indian film Sitaare Zameen Par by the renowned RS Prasanna (Shubh Mangal Saavdhan). An egotistical and impulsive assistant basketball coach named Gulshan Arora (Khan) is the protagonist of the story.

He received a 90-day community service term following a confrontation with his supervisor and an arrest for drunk driving. Ten adults with neurological differences make up his basketball team, and he is to coach them. This film is a spiritual continuation of Khan's 2007 masterpiece Taare Zameen Par with the emphasis now being on neurodiversity and social inclusion in adults rather than dyslexia in children.

Which actors join Aamir Khan in Sitaare Zameen Par's supporting cast?

Genelia Deshmukh plays Sunita, the film's female protagonist and Khan's onscreen wife. Gurpal Singh, Brijendra Kala, and Dolly Ahluwalia are part of the supporting cast.

Aroush Datta (Satbir), Gopi Krishna Varma (Guddu), Samvit Desai (Kareem), Vedant Sharma (Bantu), Ayush Bhansali (Lotus), Ashish Pendse (Sunil), Rishi Shahani (Sharmaji), Rishabh Jain (Raju), Naman Mishra (Hargovind), and Simran Mangeshkar (Golu) are ten neurodiverse actors who are integral to the production.

How did Sitaare Zameen Par fare at the box office and with critics?

Ram Sampath is in charge of the score, which features music by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya. Sitaare Zameen Par had a successful run at the box office in the middle of 2025. With a global gross of over ₹266 crore, it made around ₹165.67 crore net in the Indian market. The film's sincere performances and its ability to tackle delicate topics without coming across as preachy were the main points of criticism. Positive word of mouth sustained the film's success even without an official OTT partner at the outset.

Sony LIV hopes that its 2026 programming lineup, which will include the film with its launch on April 3, will significantly expand its subscriber base.
