Why was Sonam Bajwa apprehensive about working in Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat?

While speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Sonam Bajwa recalled feeling apprehensive about working on Milap Zaveri’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat. The actress had many questions and did not agree with the script, but the intrigue dragged her back on sets and say yes to the movie. “But why is that? Where does this happen? Why are we doing this? Why is she saying this? Why is she doing this?,” were some of the questions on Sonam’s mind. The interval point, the actress revealed, is what blew her mind. “When I heard the interval point I was like, ‘oh my goodness’ [laughs] so as an actor I took it as a challenge and I thought I'd never been given a challenge like that by anyone,” she said.

How does Sonam Bajwa deal with the hate for her Deewaniyat character?

Revealing that she gets hate for her character till date, Sonam shared that she blames Milap Zaveri for what happens. Revealing the reactions, Sonam shared, “Some of them were very angry [laughs]. I hated you. There were so many memes. There were so many comments. I would always message or call Milap and say, ‘You made me do this. Look how people are hating on me.’ But then we would just laugh about it. Sometimes I get angry and feel like replying that this is not normal, this is my character – but you know, I can't tell them. I tell Milap [laughs] I tell him why did you make me do this? Then his favourite line comes in, ‘But I gave you a superhit.” The actress also reveals a completely different reaction from others. “There are certain sections of people who genuinely enjoyed the film and who have learned the dialogues by heart.” While describing her co-star Harshvardhan Rane, Sonam felt like he inspired her. “Harsh is incredible as a human being and he is really inspiring as a person. He disciplines his craft,” is how she describes her co-actor.

Sonam Bajwa was among the few actors who 2025 favoured. She got three Bollywood movie releases back-to-back in the year, all of which got her noticed. When speaking about a future in the industry, Sonam did admit that it has become tougher with the OTT ventures since COVID-19 times, but she also admits that the range opened doors that were shut. She faced stereotypes and recalled “People think a lot that if you are from North India and you are from Punjab, maybe you don't know Hindi. I had those meetings, there people were like oh we didn't know you speak in Hindi [laughs]. I think my English isn't that good. My Hindi is better than my English.” The actress now simply aims to do a role where she surprises herself.
