Sreeleela is debutant Kireeti Reddy’s love interest in Junior, which releases in Kannada and Telugu on July 18.

It’s been a while since Sreeleela’s done a Kannada film; she was last seen in 2022’s By2Love, opposite Dhanveerraah. It was around the same time that she took up a new project, Junior, which, as it turns out, took over 3 years to finally be ready for theatres. Directed by Radhakrishna Reddy of Mayabazar 2016, Junior is the launchpad of Kireeti Reddy, the son of politician and businessman, Gaali Janardhan Reddy.

This being the case, the film is centred on Kireeti and, tailored to allow him to show off all his skill sets, which explains Sreeleela’s answer to a question about what drove her to take up the role. Speaking to TV9, Sreeleela said that the role is not extraordinary, her character, Spoorthi, is in the tale, as the mandatory love interest. What appealed to the actress is the story. “There is an emotional father-daughter arc. I connected with the story, more than the role. It’s a very beautiful story,” she said, adding that the fact that it is a Kannada-Telugu bilingual also appealed to her.

The actress adds that playing Spoorthi, was not challenging at all, as she is a college girl. Launched in 2022, the film took 3 years in the making, as Kireeti was forced out of action for about half that duration after sustaining an injury during a stunt sequence. Sreeleela alluded to this during the trailer launch, saying that she’d signed up for the film when she was in her first year of MBBS, and by the time it’s in theatres, she had completed the course.

The basic story of Junior, which has been described as a wholesome entertainer, revolves around the father-son relationship between Kireeti and V Ravichandran who plays his father, with the rest of the characters each having their bits to play in it. The film also stars Genelia Deshmukh, Rao Ramesh, Sudharani, among others.
