Su from So released in its Malayalam-dubbed version a week after the Karnataka original came out, and has been receiving glowing reviews there too

A small Kannada film set in a village in Mangaluru took the Karnataka box office by storm nearly two weeks ago. Produced by actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty and directed by actor-filmmaker JP Thuminad, the film, Su From So, began with a little over 100 shows, which, within days became 900, a reception they didn’t even dream of. From Rs 0.7 cr on Day 1 to Rs 2.17 cr only a day later – that’s the kind of impressive growth the film registered, allowing it to amass Rs 20 cr in its first week.

Such was the response to the Kannada version, that there was demand for a Malayalam dubbed one too, which Raj brought to theatres with the help of Dulquer Salmaan’s banner. Considering it was a dubbed film, they began with a modest 75 screen count, which, within days went up to 175, as word of mouth word on Su From So was that the film did not feel like a dubbed movie at all. As was the case in Karnataka, in Kerala too, audience response has been phenomenal, even though it released along with a Malayalam original, Sumathy Valavu.
However, despite the increase in shows, trackers are recording no substantial uptick in collections in Kerala. According to sacnilk.com, Su from So has been steady, bringing in Rs 0.3 cr to Rs 0.4 cr per day from Day 3 onward. Rs 2 crore gross in less than a week is not bad, though, considering that it had competition from a Malayalam original film. All eyes are now on how Su From So performs in its second weekend in Kerala.

By the end of Week 2, Su from So had amassed over Rs 50 cr gross and was set to add a Telugu version to the mix on August 8. If the love that Telugu audiences showered on Sapta Sagaradaache Ello’s dubbed version is anything to go by, Su From So could just catch their fancy, especially since there aren’t any big releases this week and that Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom crashed at the box office after a good start.
