The Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for the years 2016 to 2022, were announced in bulk late Thursday. From Lokesh Kanagaraj's debut film Maanagaram winning the Best Film for 2016 year, to Pariyerum Perumal bagging the award for 2018, the full list of awards was announced, with the ceremony scheduled to take place in February.

Tamil Nadu State Film Awards: Who won from 2016 to 2022?

Soon after the announcement of State Television Awards for 2014 to 2022, the Tamil Nadu government has announced the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for the years 2016 to 2022. While some popular names and titles galore the list, here are who and what bagged the top honours:

The top honours for 2016 were bagged by Maanagaram for Best Film, with Vijay Sethupathi taking home Best Actor award for Puriyatha Puthir and Keerthy Suresh wins Best Actress for Paambu Sattai. Lokesh Kanagaraj on Best Director for his debut Maanagaram.

In 2017, Nayanthara-led Aramm won the Best Film award, with Karthi taking the Best Actor award home for Theeran Adhigaram Ondru and Nayanthara bagging Best Actress. Pushkar-Gayathri duo got Best Director award for Vikram Vedha.

In 2018, yet another debut, Pariyerum Perumal by Mari Selvaraj won the Best Film and Best Director award respectively, with Dhanush receiving Best Actor title for Vada Chennai. Santhosh Narayanan also won for Best Music Director for the gangster action drama. Meanwhile Jyothika won Best Actress for Chekka Chivantha Vaanam.

In 2019, Vetrimaaran and Dhanush's Asuran won the Big Film award, with R Parthiban walking away with Best Actor and Best Director awards for Oththa Seruppu Size 7, and Manju Warrier for Best Actress for Asuran.

The critically acclaimed film Koozhangal won Best Film in 2020, with Suriya crowned as Best Actor for Soorarai Pottru and Aparna Balamurali as Best Actor for the same film. Sudha Kongara who helmed Soorarai Pottru won Best Director, and GV Prakash for Best Music Director.

In 2021, yet another Suriya film made waves. Jai Bhim received Best Film Award, while Lijomol Jose bagged Best Actress for the same film. TJ Gnanavel who helmed the film was honoured with Best Director award. Arya for his role as boxer in Sarpatta Parambarai received Best Actor award.

In 2022, Sai Pallavi's Gargi won Best Film, while she won Best Actress. Gautham Ramachandran, the director of Gargi was awarded Best Director. Meanwhile, Vikram Prabhu won Best Actor for Taanakkaran. AR Rahman received Best Music Director for Ponniyin Selvan 1.

When will TN State Film Awards be given out?

The ceremony to felicitate the winners will take place on February 13, at 4.30 pm, at Chennai’s Kalaivanar Arangam.
