Ahead of its OTT release, Kher characterised the film as an undertaking "made with belief"—more especially, a belief in bravery, kindness, and the notion that being unique does not mean being less. The actor said that the film now "belongs to the audience" after months of touring film festivals and theatres, urging families to view the story together.
Kher has stated that Tanvi The Great is an ode to strength and grace and that it hopes to motivate audiences by telling the story of a young woman's (debutante Shubhangi Dutt's) autistic character, Tanvi Raina. She grew up in the peaceful cantonment town of Lansdowne with her grandpa, Colonel Pratap Raina (Kher); her mother, Vidya (Pallavi Joshi); and her singular viewpoint on life.

The plot centres on Tanvi's resolve to finish what her late father, Captain Samar Raina (Karan Tacker), started but never finished. Her late father, an officer in the Indian Army, had hoped to one day salute the national flag atop Siachen Glacier and died while serving his country. To pay tribute to her father's legacy, Tanvi undergoes a physical and mental transformation as she fights against "ableist" conventions and society expectations.
Up-and-coming actors join veterans from the industry in the film. Shubhangi Dutt makes her acting debut as Tanvi. Anupam Kher portrays Tanvi's grandpa, Colonel Pratap Raina. Pallavi Joshi portrays Tanvi's mum, Vidya Raina. Brigadier Joshi is played by Jackie Shroff. Raja Sahab, Tanvi's music teacher, is played by Boman Irani. Major Srinivasan is portrayed by Arvind Swami. Playing the role of Michael Simmons is Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen. Playing the part of Captain Samar Raina is Karan Tacker.
The technical crew consists of cinematographer Keiko Nakahara, who captured the breathtaking scenery of Ladakh and Uttarakhand, and Oscar-winning composer M.M. Keeravani, who composed the score.
There has been no letup in the media coverage of Tanvi The Great since its July 18, 2025, theatrical debut. There was a seven-minute standing ovation for the film when it premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, according to reports.
The film's limited theatrical run had lasted 100 days by January 2026. It was also put on the Oscars 2026 recall list for Best Picture eligibility, which brought it even more international notice. While many critics have lauded Dutt for her performance and the film for its sincere effort to mainstream neurodivergent experiences, others have pointed out the film's lengthy running time of over 159 minutes.
The film will be available for streaming worldwide to Amazon Prime Video customers beginning tomorrow, March 3. Those who were unable to attend the story's limited theatre showing will hopefully be able to see it thanks to the OTT release.
