Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen’s romantic drama Thalaivan Thalaivii, which explores the tumultuous relationship of a young couple, had its digital streaming partner on board at the time of the theatrical release, so it was known that the film would be on Amazon Prime Video after the theatre run. And now, the streamer has set a premiere date for the film on the platform. Thalaivan Thalaivii will begin streaming on Prime Video on August 22, 2025.

Directed by Pandiraaj, who’d earlier made the Suriya-starrer Etharkkum Thunindavan, Thalaivan Thalaivii is a family drama revolving around a married couple played by Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, whose constant bickering drives them and everyone around them mad.

The duo was joined by Yogi Babu, Mynaa Nandhini, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, Deepa Shankar, Roshini Haripriyan, RK Suresh, Chemban Vinod, and others. Thalaivan Thalaivii features music by Santhosh Narayanan and cinematography by M Sukumar.

The film, which was reportedly made at a budget of Rs 25 cr was a box office success, winding up its box office run at a little over Rs 90 cr. On OTT, the film will be available with audio options in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi, besides the Tamil original.

Despite its stellar box office performance, Thalaivan Thalaivii faced scathing criticism about the rather regressive story-telling masked amid dollops of humour. The film’s take on divorce, despite the dysfunctional family set-up was also criticised.
