Written and directed by filmmaker Pandiraaj, Thalaivan Thalaivii is about Agasaveeran, a cook who runs an eatery along with his family, and Perarasi who gets married to him. The film revolves around the marital woes of the two, and how their constant fights end them up in really loud situations. It opens with Agasaveeran gatecrashing his daughter’s first tonsure ceremony held by his wife and her family, leading to the narration of their story in a non-linear pattern.

The film opened to box office success and eventually became one of the top 10 grossers of Tamil cinema this year so far. It has collected over Rs 80 crore worldwide. However, the film received some critical reviews, given its stance on anti-divorce and separation.

Besides Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen, the film also features Yogi Babu, Mynaa Nandhini, Saravanan, Kaali Venkat, Deepa, Roshini Haripriyan and others.
