Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil, the 2026 Tamil film starring actor Jiiva in the lead role, had come for Pongal as surprise package, and opened to good reviews. While the film was initially scheduled for release on January 30, was advanced to January 15 after Vijay-starrer Jana Nayagan was postponed. Given films like Vaa Vaathiyaar and Parasakthi received mixed reviews, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil emerged out audience favourite with positive reviews. Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil, the recently released Tamil film opened to good reviews. The Jiiva-starrer has made good numbers at the box office, considering the actor's previous outing, Aghathiyaa had made low numbers. As per Sacnilk, while Aghathiyaa's lifetime collection was itself only Rs 3.65 crore, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil already made Rs 4.5 crore worldwide in two days. The film made its debut with Rs 1.4 crore in Tamil Nadu, but showed a significant growth with Rs 2.5 crore on day 2. Considering the good word of mouth, and weekend to follow, Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil is expected to do good, given other films like Vaa Vaathiyaar and Parasakthi opened to mixed reviews.

Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil is written and directed by Nithish Sahadevan in his Tamil debut. The rural comedy drama shows Jiiva playing a local panchayat leader who is trusted with the responsibility to oversee a wedding. However, when a death occurs the house next door with them stubbornly wanting to conduct the funeral at the same time, the leader has to face the ego clash between the neighbours and solve the issue.
