However, on day 5, the film saw a major drop to Rs 1.60 crore, as per the estimates on the website. But this drop was expected, considering that festival holidays have ended in Tamil Nadu. The total India net collections of Thalaivar Thambi Thalaimayil stand at Rs 16.45 crore. The film's prospects would depend on whether TTT is able to maintain momentum in the coming days. Hot Spot 2 is an upcoming Tamil film, set to release on January 23.

How are latest Tamil films faring at the box office

Tamil cinema was pinning hopes on big releases for the festival week of Pongal to kickstart 2026 with a bang. But the narrative that followed was least accepted with Vijay’s Jana Nayagan getting embroiled in censor and court issues, delaying its release. The rest of the Tamil films failing too failed to draw large number of audiences to the theatres. Sivakarthikeyan’s period film Paraskthi, which delved into Hindi agitations in Tamil Nadu, made around Rs 50 crore in 10 days.

Parasathi made only Rs 0.80 crore on its second Monday at the box office. Karthi’s latest film Vaa Vaathiyaar, which was already struggling, dropped further and made only 0.26 crore. The total India collections of the Karthi film is at Rs 7.96 crore.
