Who will direct Thalapathy Vijay's next film, Thalapathy 69? is one of the highly debated pop cultural questions in Tamil cinema. This question is particularly important because Thalapathy 69 is touted to be the last film in Vijay's career as an actor.

The latest buzz is that Vijay has approved director H. Vinoth's script. An official confirmation on the same is awaited. As per industry sources, the project is said to be a political thriller, expected to provide a springboard for Vijay to launch his political campaign ahead of the assembly elections in 2026.

Last year, Vinoth had confirmed that he had narrated a few scripts to Vijay. "I want to make a political film with him. That's my desire. There is a political angle in all the scripts I have narrated to him," Vinoth had said earlier.

It's also worth noting that Vinoth is the latest addition to the growing list of directors who are expected to land the coveted job of directing the most important film for both Vijay and his fans. And the job comes with extraordinary pressure and doesn't put the director in an enviable spot.

Earlier, speculations were rife about Vijay joining forces with director Vetrimaaran for Thalapathy 69. Vetrimaaran, however, at a recent event confirmed that nothing has been finalized yet.

Director Karthik Subbaraj was touted to be another front-runner for the project. During the release of Jigarthanda DoubleX, Karthik revealed that he was in talks with Vijay and promised fans to collaborate with him soon. Recently, however, Karthik announced a film with Suriya, putting an end to all the speculations.

Vinoth was supposed to direct Kamal Haasan in a political drama. However, the project has been shelved for some unknown reasons. With Kamal moving on to join director Mani Ratnam's Thug Life, Vinoth is yet to announce his next project.

Vinoth's last directorial outing was Thunivu, starring Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar in the lead role.
