ANI reported that the National Human Rights Commission requested Mumbai Police to register a case against actor Ranbir Kapoor, the producers of the web show The Ba***ds of Bollywood, and Netflix for their involvement in the advertisement, depiction, or promotion of e-cigarettes in contravention of the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019.

In one of the scenes of The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Ranbir Kapoor is seen smoking an e-cigarette without any warning or disclaimer, complainant Vinay Joshi told the commission. The complainant also alleged that the scene was broadcast publicly, which misled or negatively influenced young viewers by promoting the use of prohibited substances.

The complainant expressed concerns that such irresponsible content encourages illegal activity, brings law enforcement agencies into disrepute, and harms public health and morals. The commission has issued a notice to the Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, urging him to take appropriate action to immediately ban such content that may wrongly influence the younger generation. The Commissioner has given two weeks to file the action report with the commission.
