The Conjuring: Last Rites is the final instalment of the Conjuring franchise. It follows paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as they take on the real-life Smurl family haunting.
The film chronicles the Warrens' attempt to help the Smurls and their family, who are tormented by a demonic presence that is ultimately linked to a cursed mirror. This haunting becomes more intense, ranging from strange sounds and smells to violent physical attacks and possession. The Warrens become involved in the case, although Ed's deteriorating heart condition makes the investigation particularly challenging.
They discover a connection between Smurl's haunted life and a cursed ancient mirror gifted to the family. In the climax, the Warrens confront the demon through a mirror with their daughter Judy, resulting in the demon's destruction and the family being freed from its torment.
Meanwhile, the cast includes Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson as the Warrens, with new additions Ben Hardy and Mia Tomlinson.
For the unversed, the story is based on the real-life Smurl haunting, which began in the 1980s.
