The Devil director Prakash Veer is busy with post-production work to ensure the film hits theatres without any issues on December 12. The next update, he says, is a song

Eight years since his last directorial Tarak came out, filmmaker Prakash Veer is gearing up for his second collaboration with Challenging Star Darshan to hit theatres. The film, The Devil, is set for theatrical release on December 12 in the actor’s absence, given that he’s currently in jail pending trial in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. For Prakash, The Devil is a home production, and given that he’s devoted more than a year and a half to the project, market dynamics dictate that it's best to release now than wait indefinitely for the actor’s return, depending on how the trial ends.

As such the filmmaker has been neck deep in post-production work to ensure the film hits theatres as planned on December 12. “My wife Thashwini and a dedicated team have taken over the promotions of the film and planned a phased manner for the song releases and trailer. In fact, I got to know that they’ve scheduled a song release this week only a day ago,” says Prakash. Does that also mean that he’s not seen the response to the BTS video that came out this week? Fans have been asking for an update on a song or the trailer.

“Honestly, I did not see that, but the next song will be out on November 16, after which it will probably be the trailer in the first week of December and then the film release. We’ve not revealed anything about the film and its plot so far, so the question now for me is how much do I want to tell audiences before the release. I have cut 4-5 trailers and am in the process of figuring out which one will best convey what we have in store, while also evoking enough intrigue in audiences to watch it in theatres,” he adds.
Prakash adds that core team members will begin promotions after the trailer release. “Heroine Rachana Rai did a round of interviews as she is a newcomer and devoted close to two years to this project. It was timed for the song release Onde Ondu Sala and made sense,” he explains.
Q. Why was Darshan arrested?
A. Darshan was arrested on June 11, 2024 in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. 35-year-old Renukaswamy was tortured to death for allegedly sending lewd messages to Darshan's alleged partner of many years, Pavitra Gowda and at his behest, the former was brought to Bengaluru, where he was beaten up and later succumbed to his injuries. Pavitra is accused number 1, while Darshan is accused number 2.
Q. When was Darshan given bail?
A. Darshan was granted interim medical bail in late November claiming he needed surgical intervention for a bad back issue. He was then granted regular bail by the High Court in mid-December, the circumstances of which have been questioned by the Supreme Court, which, on August 14, 2025, 8 months later, cancelled his bail.
