The Verdict OTT release: Less than a month after its theatrical outing, The Verdict, which was Sruthi Hariharan’s first Tamil release in 8 years, and had her at the heart of the tale, is coming to OTT

The Verdict, directed by debutant Krishna Shankar and starring Sruthi Hariharan, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Suhasini Maniratnam, Prakash Mohandas and Vidyullekha Raman, among others, had released in theatres on May 30, 2025. The film, which was shot entirely in the US, was Sruthi’s first Tamil release in 8 years, in a story revolving around her character. It is now headed to OTT.

The Verdict will make its way to OTT less than a month after its theatrical outing. The film has been picked up by Sun Network, which will make it available to stream from June 26, 2025 onward. It joins a list of recent releases that include the likes of Lal Salaam, Sumo, Nesippaya, Ten Hours, Blue Star, Paraman and more.

The film was billed as a courtroom drama initially, but Sruthi had explained that the legal bit is only a part of the narrative. “The courtroom angle is only one aspect of the film; there’s also a love story revenge, vengeance and a thriller element, making it a sensible potboiler,” she had told OTTplay, prior to the release.

In fact, the first half of the film addresses this, as it opens with her character, Namrutha accused and standing trial in the murder of her friend, Eliza (Suhasini). Namrutha had been made a sizeable beneficiary in Eliza’s will, which made her the number 1 suspect. But did she really kill her friend?

Well, that is advocate Maya (Varalaxmi), Namrutha’s lawyer job to convince the jury and the judge, which she does. Acquitted of all charges, Namrutha then proceeds to figure out what actually happened and bring the real killer to justice. The film had received mixed reviews during its theatrical reviews, with director Krishna blamed for squandering a great opportunity with shoddy making. The cast, however, was praised for trying to do their best with what was on offer.
