The final week of April promises to be a blast for the Malayalam film audience. With movies featuring Nivin Pauly and Fahadh Faasil, along with the dubbed versions of big-budget films like Ponniyin Selvan: II and Agent that has a host of Malayalam stars including Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Mammootty, there’s enough and more to please fans of all genres.

While Ponniyin Selvan: II will most definitely be the most-anticipated movie of the week, with its Malayalam-dubbed version releasing as early at 4.30am in Kerala, those who want to enjoy another period film and a multi-starrer in the comfort of their homes can watch Rajeev Ravi’s Thuramukham. This week also has Fahadh returning to comedy with Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum and Mammootty’s Telugu comeback with Agent, which will also be available in Malayalam.

Thuramukham

Release platform: Sony LIV and OTTplay Premium

Director Rajeev Ravi’s period film, which has Nivin Pauly, Arjun Ashokan, Indrajith Sukumaran, Poornima Indrajith and Darshana Rajendran in pivotal roles, revolves around the proletariat uprising against the inhumane chappa system that was practised in Cochin harbour during the early to mid 1900s.

Pachuvum Athbutha Vilakkum

Release platform: Theatre

Fahadh Faasil’s family entertainer, which also marks the debut directorial of Sathyan Anthikad’s son Akhil, revolves around the changes that his character Prashanth aka Pachu brings in the lives of three women during this trip from Mumbai to Kerala to Goa. The film also has Mukesh, Vineeth, Viji Venkatesh, Anjana Jayaprakash, Dhwani Rajesh and Indrans.

Vedikettu

Release platform: ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium

The villagers of the islands – Manjapra and Karingotta – are always at each other’s throats due to the prejudices they carry for each other. After a young man and woman from the two villages fall for each other, tensions rise. How will this affect those in the villages, form the plot of Vishnu Unnikrishnan and Bibin George’s directorial debut.

Ponniyin Selvan: II

The first instalment of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ended with a cliffhanger, with Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi) falling into the sea and Oomai Rani, who resembled Nandini (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), trying to save him. With the fate of the Chola kingdom hanging in balance, how will Aditha Karikalan (Vikram) react, what are Nandini’s plans and will Vandiyadevan (Karthi) and Ponniyin Selvan join Aditha Karikalan in the battle? The dubbing of the Malayalam version of the film, also starring Aishwarya Lekshmi and Jayaram, was supervised by Shanker Ramakrishnan.

Agent

Release platform: Theatre

Akhil Akkineni and Mammootty star in this spy action-thriller that revolves around an agent, who goes undercover, to discover secrets about a terrorist organization and ends up learning more than what he bargained for. The movie has Mammootty essaying the role of RAW chief Colonel Mahadevan.

Pakalum Pathiravum

Release platform: ZEE5 and OTTplay Premium

A wildlife photographer, on his way from Kochi to Mysore, decides to stay at a house in Wayanad. The village, however, has been on the edge on account of a Maoist threat. The host family too is intimidated after finding a gun with the stranger. What happens during the night form the plot of Kunchacko Boban and Rajisha Vijayan’s thriller.
