Tovino Thomas’ latest movie Thallumaala is on track to become the highest-grossing film in the actor’s career, if it follows the upswing trend that was witnessed in its first two days. The movie, which is directed by Khalid Rahman, has already bettered its Day 1 collection and is set for a major rake-in at the box office during the extended Independence Day weekend.

According to reports, the film had added an extra 70 screens on Day 2. The first day collection of the movie, which also has Kalyani Priyadarshan, Shine Tom Chacko and Lukman Avaran, was around Rs 3 crore and the Day 2 figures have apparently taken this number to a total Rs 6.5-Rs 7 crore, according to trade analysts.

Thallumaala had already registered the fourth-highest opening day gross this year after Mammootty’s Bheeshma Parvam, CBI 5: The Brain and Mohanlal’s Aaraattu, beating Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva and Pranav Mohanlal’s Hridayam, which had opened to theatres while the 50% theatre occupancy restrictions were still in place.

Thallumaala’s biggest competition is Kunchacko Boban’s Nna, Thaan Case Kodu which has also seen a rise in the box office figures in each of its first three days. The movie, which is a courtroom drama-satire helmed by Android Kunjappan Ver. 5.25 director Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval, hit theatres a day before Thallumaala and has got largely positive reviews. The movie is also expected to clock Rs 7 crore in its first weekend including the Independence Day holiday.
