Veteran Tamil actor and political figure Vijayakanth has been confirmed to have contracted Covid-19 and he has been placed under ventilator support.

Seasoned Tamil star and political leader Vijayakanth has tested positive for COVID-19, confirmed in an official press release from the DMDK party. The statement further added that the actor was needed to put on a ventilator as he had difficulty breathing.
This is the second week in the last few weeks he has been hospitalized. On November 18, Vijayakanth was admitted to the hospital after he was diagnosed with infected lungs and chest congestion. He was discharged from the hospital only two weeks ago.
While he undergoing treatment at the hospital, speculations were rife about his deteriorating health, causing a lot of concerns about his fans. His family had issued a public statement to pacify his fans and assured them he was getting the best treatment and they were confident that he would make a full recovery.

Soon after he was discharged, he was taken to a public meeting, which was attended by the supporters and the members of the DMDK, a political outfit that he founded in 2005.

Vijayakanth seemingly lacked the required fluidity to interact and address his fans and followers. There was a massive outrage on social media and across political circles when the visuals from the event showed the suffering of Vijayakanth. Many questioned the need to put him under such a stressful situation, instead of allowing him to recover and rest. Several actors and directors of the Tamil film industry expressed disappointment and appealed for his well-being.
