Vilaayath Budha box office collection day 5: Prithviraj Sukumaran was back on the silver screen with Vilaayath Budha, seven months after his directorial Empuraan, which is among the top grossers in Malayalam. But the 2025 Malayalam film is currently in the news after its producer raised cyberattack claims, citing that as the reason for its poor box office performance. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s action-packed film has been struggling at the box office, earning just Rs 0.37 crore on day 5, as per the figures on Sacnilk.

Malayalam actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest film Vilaayath Budha, released in theaters on November 21, 2025. The star power of Prithivraj and the hype around the project, which was originally conceived by (late filmmaker) Sachy, meant that Vilaayath Budha opened with Rs 1.7 crore in India net collections, almost a crore more than Eko which made only Rs 0.80 crore. But since then Vilaayath Budha has been on a downward spiral with the Jayan Nambiar directorial making less than Rs 1 crore for the past three days.

Also starring Shammi Thilakan, the film made Rs 0.75 crore on Sunday and Rs 0.35 crore in India net collections. The day 5 Malayalam net collections are at Rs 0.37 crore. Compare this to Eko, which is minting over a crore even on week days, and Vilaayath Budha is clearly struggling despite being the bigger release of the two.

Vilaayath Budha under cyberattack, claims producer

Amid the dismal box office performance, Vilaayath Budha producer Sandeep Senan has filed a complaint with the Kerala Police, alleging that a YouTube channel has been spreading ‘religious and political hatred’. He further alleged that they are tarnishing the movie’s reputation.

It needs to be pointed out that Prithviraj’s Empuraan had also run into a row, though it was a major controversy that grabbed national headlines over alleged anti-right content.
