Vilaayath Budha was one of the most-anticipated films of Malayalam actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran that was in the making for several years. After the demise of filmmaker Sachy, who conceived the original idea, Jayan Nambiar took over the reins and released the film on November 21, 2025. However, the result was disappointing with Vilaayath Budha failing to impress audiences or critics. The Prithviraj-starrer has only collected Rs 8.58 crore during its nearly two-week run at the box office, as per Sacnilk, and with biggies such as Mammootty’s Kalamkaval set to release, Vilaayath Budha is set to end its box office run and is unlikely to touch even double digits of Rs 10 crore.

The Malayalam film Vilaayath Budha, starring Prithviraj along with Shammi Thilakan in the other lead role, opened with Rs 1.7 crore on November 21, collecting more than the other release of Eko. But that was the highest figure recorded by Vilaayath Budha as the film has been on a downward spiral since. The film, based on GR Indugopan’s novel, was panned by critics and did not win any favourable feedback from the audience either. The producer had also raised cyberattack allegations, but all the row did little to improve the box office figures.

The worldwide collections stand at Rs 8.58 crore, while India Malayalam net collections are at Rs 5.14 crore. Eko, led by young actor Sandeep Pradeep, has been winning much love and performing well in theatres, with the worldwide box office collection crossing Rs 30 crore.

Malayalam films releasing on December 5

Vilaayath Budha is unlikely to continue with its box office run as Mammootty-led Kalamkaval, another much-anticipated Malayalam film, releases in theatres on December 5, 2025. The Mammootty-starrer is eagerly awaited by fans as it marks megastar’s big return to the silver screen after a hiatus and that too in a gray-shaded role.

Not just Kalamkaval, Indrajith Sukumaran-led Dheeram, Khajuraaho Dreams and and The Ride are other Malayalam films releasing in theatres this Friday.
