Malayalam superstar Mohanlal recently had a phone conversation with writer Arundhati Roy, Mathrubhumi has reported. The Thudarum actor began the call with ‘I am Mohanlal’, and the Booker Prize-winning author was quick to remind the star that he had sung one of her mother’s songs in a movie.

Mohanlal too recalled the song, "Peppara Perapera", in the movie Olympian Anthony Adam. Mohanlal himself had rendered the original song from the 1990 movie.

The phone call was held ahead of Mathrubhumi International Festival of Letters 2026, where Arundhati Roy will present her book, Mother Mary Comes to Me, signed as ‘To Mohanlal. Stay Cool. Love. Arundhati Roy’.

In the movie Olympian Anthony Adam movie, Mohanlal plays police officer Antony who goes to a school as a physical trainer to find out more information about a criminal’s child. Mohanlal sings and features in the short, fun song in the movie, along with the school students. The song has appeared in Arundhati Roy's Booker Prize-winning novel The God of Small Things.
