Kanpur-based Vaibhav Gupta won Indian Idol 14 on March 3, Sunday, taking home the trophy, Rs 25 lakh cash prize and an elegant Maruti Suzuki Brezza car. Ananya Pal, Anjana Padmanabhan, Adya Mishra, Piyush Panwar, and Subhadeep Das were the other finalists who faced off against Vaibhav. With Sonu Nigam as the evening's special guest, the grand finale turned out to be a special affair indeed.

Outstandingly versatile performance during auditions

Shreya Ghoshal, one of the judges of Indian Idol Season 14, expressed happiness and pride on having picked Vaibhav Gupta during the audition round itself. Sharing her thoughts, Shreya said, "Right from the audition, Vaibhav has shown versatility and throughout the competition, he has kept surprising us with his performance. Vaibhav’s journey on the show has been remarkable, consistent, and inspiring. I truly wish him all the very best and pray he fulfills his dreams."

Vaibhav Gupta's soft, romantic numbers were the season's highlight

Vaibhav Gupta had an interesting journey on the show. He was known for performing songs that leaned more towards the passionate, and romantic genres. Throughout the season, Vaibhav charmed several famous guests and the judges. While Mahesh Bhatt praised him, Sukhwinder Singh went as far as performing live with Vaibhav on stage. Vaibhav also stunned Hrithik Roshan during one of the episodes by singing a Lakshya song. Karisma Kapoor gave Vaibhav one of the greatest compliments when she mentioned how much he reminded her of Shammi Kapoor.

Wants to set up his dream music studio with the prize money

Expressing his happiness, Vaibhav said that winning the trophy felt unbelievable and that he was thankful for the audience's constant support. He also shared that the victory made him feel more focused and responsible towards doing far better for the audience and his fans. "It feels surreal to have won the Indian Idol 14 trophy. Taking forward the legacy of this beloved and prestigious show is a tremendous honour," Vaibhav shared. When asked what he would do with the prize money of Rs 25 lakh, Vaibhav quipped that he aspires to set up his dream music studio to make the kind of music he wants to. He added that he intended to create a few music videos as well.

Playback singing for Salman Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Ranveer Singh

Vaibhav, who was on cloud nine after winning Sony Entertainment Television's singing reality show, couldn't contain his excitement and said, " I want to do playback singing for Salman Khan, Vicky Kaushal, and Ranveer Singh now. I will try my best that this happens someday." He further said that he wants to bring back the symphony kind of live music as the 90s feel is now coming back and people are listening to musical stalwarts such as Kishore Kumar once again. This, he said, is why he wants to focus on melodies and bring out a new wave.

Bollywood dreams

Expressing gratitude to the judges, guests and the audience, Vaibhav said he felt good about being called the Indian Idol 14 winner. He also mentioned that now is only the beginning of his dreams coming true. Hinting at his desire to be a part of Bollywood, Vaibhav added, " God willing, I wish to enter Bollywood now." The young winner also recalled the unforgettable moment when guest judge Mahesh Bhatt had whistled for him on the show. " With the love and appreciation I was getting, I was hopeful that I could win this. Especially, when Mahesh Bhatt whistled for me, I loved that moment. I keep playing it in my head," he said.
