Why Special Ops 2 release date was changed? Know here

Special Ops 2 was originally scheduled for a July 11 release. However, a few days before the release, the makers suddenly postponed it to July 18.

Special Ops 2 starring Kay Kay Menon is finally streaming on JioHotstar via OTTplay Premium. The series, directed by Shivam Nair and Neeraj Pandey, was earlier scheduled to be released on July 11. But last minute, the makers announced that it will land on July 18. But why did the release date change overnight? Find out some speculations below!

Why was Special Ops 2 release date changed?

If you have already watched Special Ops 2, you might have noticed that the makers have changed 'UPI' word to 'OBI' in the series. The new season is based on cyber terrorism, with Tahir Raj Bhasin's character playing a villain, a cyber criminal. He wants to access UPI (United Payments Interface) users' data for malicious purposes. The trailer of the show also includes a scene where he mentions the same.

The old trailer was also removed and in the new promo, we can hear the new word 'OBI' instead of UPI.

An industry insider informed Bollywood Hungama, “Since it's a sensitive topic, the makers must have got a directive not to mention UPI. This could also be the reason why the show's release date was pushed from July 11 to July 18 as dubbing and making changes must have taken time.”

It also added, “The change doesn't affect the show as one can understand what the villain is talking about. Also, let's not forget that terms like Reserve Bank of India, China etc. have been allowed.”

Special Ops 2 has been receiving positive reviews from both fans and critics. Kay Kay Menon's Himmat Singh once again captured hearts with his natural acting and his heroic way of leading his team to fight against the cyberattack.

Reviewing the series, one fan wrote on X, "Just finished Special OPS 2. What acting by @kaykaymenon02 sir. He is brilliant, just loved the season. All others were also brilliant especially @karantacker aka farooq. We need season 3 as soon as possible. #SpecialOps2."

Another said, "Finished watching all 07 episodes of #SpecialOps2 in a single night, and asusual it was worth watching. @kaykaymenon02 @karantacker @prakashraaj Kudos to the wole team."

Meanwhile, Special Ops 2 casts Kay Kay Menon as Himmat Singh, Karan Tacker, Vinay Pathak, Muzammil Ibrahim, Saiyami Kher, Gautami Kapoor, and Meher Vij. Apart from them, the cast also includes Prakash Raj (new addition), Tahir Raj Bhasin (antagonist), Dilip Tahil, Parmeet Sethi, Kali Prasad Mukherjee, Gautami Kapoor, Arif Zakaria, Kamakshi Bhat, Shikha Talsania, and Vikkas Manaktala.
