Yuva Rajkumar, who debuts on March 29 with Yuva, says that despite his immense love for acting, the more people said it'd be his chosen path, the more he chose to deny it, till he was absolutely ready

For a star kid, the expectation almost always is that he/she will find a career in cinema, ideally in front of the camera. When you are a part of the Kannada film industry’s first family, the Rajkumars, obviously, there is heightened excitement around the entry of a new member. Raghavendra Rajkumar’s younger son Guru, who has been rechristened Yuva for the big screen, comes with a lot of love and responsibility on his shoulder. For fans, he is the successor of his late uncle, Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar, which he hopes to live up to.
Yuva Rajkumar on the late Puneeth Rajkumar: No one can fill the void he left onscreen
But much before his career took such a turn and he ended up working with a team that was meant to do a film with Puneeth, Yuva had been preparing himself for a career in cinema. Speaking to TV9 Kannada, Yuva said that from a very young age, his choice of vacation spots would always be wherever his uncles – Shivarajkumar or Puneeth – were shooting at that point of time.
As a young kid, Yuva loved the environment of film sets and took a keen interest in camera angles, lighting, editing and pretty much everything to do with making a motion picture. More importantly, the idea of entertaining people fascinated him, especially in terms of embodying a character and behaving like that person. That time frame between a director’s call of action and cut is among his happiest and transports him to another world, says the debutant actor.
Yuva was always clear that his eventual destination would be cinema, although he did a degree in architecture. But because there was a preconceived notion about his star kid status and that people always wondered why he was even bothering with education since he was anyway going to be doing films, for the longest time he made it his mission to deny this and claim that he has no interest in cinema.
While the actor says that he’d say this because he was hurt, he also knew deep within that as and when he does enter filmdom, it would only be when he felt confident about his capabilities as an actor. It is only after he began training for a career in films and gained the confidence that he told his family about his long-standing dream – be an actor.
Yuva, produced by Hombale Films and directed by Santhosh Ananddram, is releasing in theatres on March 29. An emotional drama between a father and son, played by Achyuth Kumar and Yuva, the film also stars Sapthami Gowda, Hitha Chandrashekhar, Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Sudharani, Kishore, among others. Music is by Ajaneesh Loknath.
