Anandalahari Review: A Godavari romance which is simple and has a small-town story with passable moments

Anandalahari
The series is set in the Godavari region of Andhra Pradesh. Anand (Abhishek) is a good-for-nothing guy who has no aim in life. On the other hand, Lahari (Bramaramba Tutika) is a sincere girl who aims to get an IT job. Due to a major turn of events, Anand and Lahari get married and move to Hyderabad. Lahari wants to become independent, while Anand still roams around with no basic responsibilities. The rest of the series is all about how the couple clears their differences and ends up as a happy couple. You can stream the eight-episode series here on OTTplay Premium.
Anandalahari has been written and directed by Sai Vanapalli and showcases how two different people with unique ideologies get forced into a marriage and land in massive trouble. One of them is from West Godavari and the other is from East Godavari. There are a lot of drastic elements that the people from these regions carry, and how a couple who are forced into marriage handle the pressure of egos is the basic story of the series.
Not many know, but Anandalahari is backed by the prestigious Suresh Productions, and they have chosen a new cast to tell this small-town story. This is one of the drawbacks, as the new-age actors take time to grow on you. The eight-episode series starts on a dull note, and the lack of experience from the new actors is clearly seen in many scenes.
But once the show gets into the fourth episode, things start making sense as the writing improves. The series keeps moving back and forth from the village to the city and showcases how the lives of two people are affected when their egos take a beating.
Among the two major characters, it is the heroine Bramaramba whose role is etched with more clarity and connects with the audience. There is no major story in the series, and it deals with simple life moments from the Godavari region and how their sensibilities match.
The best part is that there are no cringeworthy moments in the show. Things are narrated on a simple note, but at the same time, there are also no standout moments. The emotions are simple, and one gets a feeling that more drama would have made a world of difference in the series.
Coming to the performances, Abhishek Boddepalli makes his debut and gives a decent performance. Though he is new, he plays the Godavari character quite well, and the manner in which he showcases carelessness works effectively.
But it is Bramaramba who walks away with the cake. She is amazing as the independent girl who is pushed into the chaos of marriage and shares good chemistry with Abhishek. The way she mouths the Godavari slang and manages to hold a scene proves that she can act quite well. The supporting cast, Amar, Krishna, and Amar, do their jobs well.
The production values of the series are just about okay. The camerawork is decent and showcases the village setup nicely. The dialogues are good, but the production design could have been a lot better. Anandalahari is a series that has a simple and routine setup and takes time to grow on you, but there is nothing new that has been showcased here.
On the whole, Anandalahari is a romantic drama about a young couple who are poles apart. The casting is new, and the story is routine. If you sit through the first few episodes, the series has passable moments that make it worth a weekend watch.
