The Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 clash between India and Sri Lanka turned into an unforgettable contest, with both sides finishing level at the end of 40 overs. India, after setting a target of 203, saw their bowlers tested to the limit as Sri Lanka matched their score. With no separating the two teams, the match was forced into a Super Over, where India ultimately prevailed.

Sri Lanka had won the toss and opted to field first. India’s innings was led by Abhishek Sharma, who struck a blistering 61 from 31 deliveries, providing a flying start. Contributions from Tilak Varma (49) and Sanju Samson (39) ensured India maintained momentum through the middle overs before closing on 202/5 in their allotted 20 overs. The total looked competitive, yet the game was far from decided.

In reply, Sri Lanka responded with aggression, keeping pace with the chase despite regular breakthroughs from India’s attack. The scoreboard pressure never seemed to faze them, and the contest went right down to the wire. At the end of their innings, Sri Lanka had also posted 202/5, taking the game into the rarely-seen Super Over.

Sri Lanka batted first in the Super Over but faltered under pressure. India’s choice of bowler proved decisive as tight lines and clever variations limited them to just 2 runs. The pressure of the occasion clearly got to Sri Lanka’s batters, who were unable to find the boundary or rotate strike effectively.

India’s response in the Super Over was clinical. With just 3 runs required, their openers, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill ensured there was no drama, completing the chase within a couple of deliveries. The celebrations that followed highlighted the significance of the win, as India gained a valuable edge in the Super 4 stage.
