FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick expressed disappointment after winning 3-0 against Mallorca at Estadi de Son Moix on Saturday, citing his dissatisfaction with his team's effort. Flick said he disliked the match because his players only played at 50% intensity, even after leading 2-0 and Mallorca being reduced to nine men through two red cards.

"I think my team played at 50%... That can't happen. I need to talk to the players about this," Flick stated, after the match, underlining that the team's performance was below the standards expected, even though the three points gained were crucial for their title defense campaign.

What happened in the match?

The match at Son Moix saw Barcelona take the lead early. Raphinha, assisted by Lamine Yamal, scored in the 7th minute of the match. Yamal’s perfect cross from the right dropped inside the box and bounced perfectly for Raphinha to head the ball inside the goal.

The second goal for Barcelona came through Ferran Torres, but in a controversial manner. Antonio Raíllo was hit on the head by a shot from Lamine Yamal, and then the ball fell perfectly for Ferran to go for the goal. Mallorca players thought the game had stopped, but the referee did not whistle and let the game continue. Ferran hit the top bin to register his first goal of the season.

However, controversy and discipline issues affected the flow of the match, with Mallorca reduced to nine men. After the second goal, Manu Morlanes was warned by the referee for dissent and then got his second yellow card after a foul against Yamal.

In the 39th minute, Vedat Muriqi was shown a direct red card for a high boot on Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia. First, it was given as a yellow card, but after the VAR replay, the referee changed it to a red card.

While Barcelona managed to secure a comfortable win, Flick was not satisfied with the performance levels, reflecting the intensity and focus needed even in difficult situations. Despite having only nine men on the park, Mallorca were able to concede only one more goal in the match.

In the injury time, Lamine Yamal made a quick cutback and went for his usual left-footed curling shot to hit the back of the net. Yamal went on to win the Player of the Match award for his goal and assist.

The German coach's remarks come as part of a broader expectation for his young squad to recover fast and show consistency in both effort and results throughout the La Liga season.

This victory allowed Barcelona to start their 2025/26 La Liga season on a positive note, but Flick's call for improved focus and commitment signals that he expects more from his squad in the upcoming fixtures.
