West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined 25% of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test against India in Delhi.

West Indies fast bowler Jayden Seales has been fined 25 percent of his match fee for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the second Test against India in Delhi. The incident occurred on the opening day of the match when Seales threw the ball at Indian batter Yashaswi Jaiswal in an inappropriate and dangerous manner, leading to disciplinary action by the ICC.

The breach falls under Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which prohibits throwing the ball or any cricket equipment at or near a player in a way that is unsafe or improper during an international match.

Seales’ throw hit Jaiswal on the pads while the batter was safely within the crease, according to the Match Referee’s review of replay footage.

Seales, though, had contested the charge

Seales contested the charge, asserting that his throw was part of an effort to complete a runout. However, after a formal hearing led by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, it was ruled that the throw was unnecessary and inappropriate in the context.

The decision was supported by the on-field umpires Richard Illingworth and Paul Reiffel, third umpire Alex Wharf, and fourth umpire K.N. Ananthapadmanabhan, who all corroborated the charge.

As a consequence of this breach, Seales was fined a quarter of his match fee. Additionally, he received one demerit point, which brings his total to two demerit points within a 24-month period, the previous point being from a December 2024 Test against Bangladesh.

According to ICC regulations, Level 1 breaches carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of the player’s match fee, along with one or two demerit points depending on the severity.
